Sanath Pujitha is a seasoned education administrator and examination specialist with over three decades of service across Sri Lanka’s most critical national education institutions. His career spans school leadership, district education administration, national examinations management, and teacher training, giving him an exceptionally broad command of how education systems function at every level.
He served as Commissioner General of Examinations at the Department of Examinations, Sri Lanka from 2017 to 2021, overseeing the administration of the country’s largest public examinations, including the GCE O/L with approximately 700,000 candidates, the Grade 5 Scholarship Examination, and the GCE A/L, across more than 3,000 examination centres nationwide. Prior to that, he held senior positions at the National Institute of Education, including Acting Director General, and served as Director of Examinations and Deputy Director General across multiple faculties.
Pujitha holds two Masters degrees in Education, from the University of Colombo and Brock University, Canada, a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics and Statistics from the University of Peradeniya, and an International Diploma in Educational Planning and Administration from NIEPA, New Delhi. He has participated in study tours and professional programmes across Australia, Thailand, Japan, South Korea, India, and Bangladesh.
A recognised expert in assessment design, examination administration, and teacher professional development, he has designed and delivered training programmes for education service officers, graduate teachers, and school principals across Sri Lanka.
